Important Dates to Note

I just realized that Almi has been home with me longer than she lived in orphanages. She was in two orphanages, one for one month and one for six months. She has been home for over eight months now which means she has lived at home with me longer!

She lived at home in Ethiopia with her first family for thirteen months. Thinking about that is so heartbreaking. To have to put your child into care after caring for her for 13 months... I can't imagine. I cry if I think about it too long. Sweet baby.

In March 2011 we will mark one year together.
And in May 2011 she will have been with me longer than with her first family.
Always and forever, little girl. Always and forever.

When I adopted my daughter she was 9.5 months old. My sister's daughter was 6 months old at the time. It was very hard for me when my niece hit 9.5 months old. I couldn't stop thinking of how devastating it would be for her to have to leave her family now. But that's exactly what happened to my daughter and her foster family. And it WAS devastating. I still get emotional when I know babies of that age. It took my daughter a long time to be a happy girl. Thankfully, Almi always looks ultra-happy! And my Tiana told me last night after her first dance class that she was so happy she was smiling from ear to ear. :)
