But then she did it again. The other day she woke up really early so I brought her into bed with me to get some more sleep. The night before I had covered my windows with some beach cover ups in an effort to help block the morning sun that streams into the room at the crack of dawn and she noticed them and commented on them. "Ooh, pretty," she said as she pointed at this one.
Then she pointed to another one and said, "Stahwuh" (star).
Then she pointed to the T shirt on the last window (I only have three beach cover ups and four windows) and said, "Bama!"
Then she pointed to me and said, "Mommy" and back at the Tshirt and said, "Mama."
"Mommy. Bama."
I have never talked to her about Obama and I doubt they teach her about him in daycare so where on earth did she learn his name?!?

The other day I went out to have an early sushi dinner with my neighbor and our daughters. We were walking down the street all holding hands, my friend and I on the outside and the girls in the middle. As we approached an older Black gentleman in an overcoat and a hat, Almi dropped my hand, pointed to him, and yelled, "Granpa!" It was the cutest thing! He laughed and spoke to her and the whole time she smiled and gazed at him lovingly. Aw, so cute.

After our sushi dinner, my neighbor and I took both girls to her house and put them to bed. After the babysitter arrived we headed back out for a night on the town. In the morning my neighbor offered to keep her there until 2pm so I of course happily agreed. She told me that sometime early that morning Almi turned to her and said, "Mommy byebye." She said she responded with, "No, Mommy's sleeping" and put her head on her folded hands. She said Almi said, "Mommy go byebye" and she repeated "No, Mommy's at your house. She just sleeping." Aw, breaks my heart to have her thinking I wasn't coming back. :(

And finally, this cracks me up!! The other day she was playing right near me in the den when all of a sudden I heard the toilet flush. She came running back into the room so I asked her, "ALMI! What did you flush down the toilet?"
Her response? "I no wan it. Bye bye."
"ALMI! WHAT DID YOU FLUSH DOWN THE TOILET?!"
"bye bye"
I tried not to laugh cause I certainly don't want that to happen again but it was so funny.. except that I have no idea what it was!!

Glad to hear you made it out for an evening of fun with adults only. I hope you enjoyed the time out even though you mentioned you felt guilty the next day. Hey. I some point we are going to have to be gone for one or a couple of nights at some point of time. We don't have the luxury of the other parent being there. I think the key is us just getting them to understand we will be coming back. They'll only really learn this when we've actually done it a couple of times and they can truly understand that we'll be back.
Selam knows Obama, too, and I didn't teach it to her. I think she learned it at school as in that's the name of the president. I don't think Selam could pick his picture out though!
