Oh, just thinking about it makes me upset. I think she will do fine. She loves toys and singing and playing with other kids and sitting on kid-sized chairs and eating snacks and learning. Here she is exploring some rocks and shells at my friend's house. She is so curious.
She starts today for 2 hours (while I go on a breakfast date!), tomorrow for 2 hours and Friday for 1. And then it's back to work for me full time on Monday and she will be there for 10 hrs. That's a lo-o-o-ng time. There are only 6 more weeks of school so it's not too long for her to be there before she's back with me full time this summer but I wish she could avoid this stint and not have to go until the fall. On one hand I want her to be around other kids having fun and learning things but she is so special and so sweet and I want to continue to nurture that. She says please and thank you and gives me kisses and doesn't have tantrums. I don't want her to pick up bad habits from other kids like spitting, biting or crying fits. I really, really, really wish I could have figured out a way to keep her home until summer. Makes me cry really but what can you do? Gotta pay the mortgage. Sigh.
Well, she is going in today either way. In two hours I will drop her off with strangers. Oh boy, here come the waterworks again. This is going to be so hard!
**Update**
She did fine. She had visited once before so it wasn't completely new to her and it's such a happy, diverse place that she fit right in. She didn't cry and when I went in to pick her up she was sitting in someone's lap looking at a book. I went in and crouched down by her and said, "Hi, Pumpkin" and she gave me a huge smile and came over to me with her arms outstretched. Aww... so sweet. When I put her down to put on her jacket she started whimpering, like 'please don't leave me here any longer... take me with you!' That made me feel better -- like we are pretty bonded. I hope it continues to go this smoothly.

This is so hard! I've got to write my daycare post!!
I'm sorry you have to go through this now but I'm happy you are a teacher and you get your summers and vacations. She will do better than fine, don't have worries about that. Toddlers love toddlers! They crack each other up. She will miss you but she'll have her friends and they will learn to support each other. She will laugh all day long (really!) and she will cry some and there will be people big and small that will support her and she will realize the world is a wonderful place. You will meet others with lives like yours and you will become friends.
All that said...it's brutally hard on the Mama! It is. I wish I had some fine words to make it less brutal on your heart. I have none.
Summer. Hang on - it's almost here.
Hi, why don't you "stay" with her the first and second time to show her that the "strangers" are ok to be with and "then" leave her with them the third time? Leaving her the very first day she meets the people seems a little harsh ...

I totally understand. Hang in there.
I know the feelings! But...this too shall pass--and make your bonding to one another all the stronger. Be sure to take some time and write her a letter (for her Tin Letter Can) expressing what leaving her feels like and means to you so she'll have it when she's older (leaving for college dorms maybe)!
Laura, she will be fine. Yes, she'll pick up things you wish she wouldn't but she'll have fun and learn plenty of social skills, though admittedly, she probably is just fine in that department given she was in an orphanage. How tempting it must be to take those weeks off. I hope you can make it work out.
First day’s are tough, Jordan’ s first official day was hard for me as well. I’m glad she did well.
I'm sorry you weren't able to take more time off, but it sounds like you did all the right things to smooth the transition for her - a visit with you ahead of time, starting off on a reduced schedule, etc. Glad to hear it went well, hope it continues to get better and better!
Glad she did well. I know all too well how hard it is to leave them at first when you aren't sure what they understand and how they will do. That darn mortgage.
