I love DC weather this time of year. Hot, humid days means the nights are perfect. No need for a jacket (though I never leave home without one because of air conditioning) and soft, warm breezes. It was a gorgeous evening and it should have been lovely and relaxing but my kiddo makes most evenings anything but. Tonight was no different. Almi loves the water so we walked down to the dock to look at the boats before dinner. She enjoyed looking at them but she was very disappointed that we couldn't go on one. If we have time I may try to rent a paddle boat and take her out on the Potomac before we leave. She would really love that, but it would make me nervous the entire time. You see, Almi is a thrill seeking, curious, independent-minded, obstinate child. Don't get me wrong, these can be great characteristics when channeled the right way, but telling her not to do something is the sure fire way to peek her interest and have her do it. These personality characteristics are amazing, frustrating, awe-inspiring, annoying and downright terrifying sometimes. You have to watch this child like a hawk every, single moment because she wants to know what everything tastes like, she wants to experience everything and she has absolutely no fear. Her new thing is to give me a seconds notice before she jumps off of something into my arms. Luckily I have caught her each time. I have great reflexes and I'm strong. Tonight I grabbed her off an elevator before the door shut behind her, I snatched her before she ran into the street and my friend grabbed the candy she found on the street out of her hand before she deposited it into her mouth.
Walking down the dock seemed like a good idea. It was quite a long stretch and I knew she needed to expend some energy. It wasn't until we got down there, though, that I realized only one side had a fence. The other side was a sudden drop several feet down to the dark, murky water. As you can imagine, she wanted nothing more than to get close to the edge. Nearly gave me a heart attack as you can imagine.

So, how do you think you'll feel if Almi's nanny has to take a behavior correction/modification approach that you might not agree with or that may be firmer than what you feel is necessary?
I know when Songbird's with Grandmom, Grandmom's approach is sooooooooo much consistent with firmness then mine until I want to step in with a whistle and say, "time out Mom"; however, I pull back and just watch, observe and take mental notes because I have to admit that Songbird's manners and ability to listen and follow immediate and long term directions with my Mom leaves me wondering what the heck is wrong with my Mommy-skills. *My Mom encourages me and praises my skills which keeps me moving forward in this parenting journey.*
I can see you guys backpacking around Asia on the weekend and having a blast. The Nanny will be able to handle the little princess and enjoy every minute. Stop worrying and start enjoying. Oh; I love the purple cool shades. :)
Enjoy your week.
