I've been waiting for months for the weather to warm up so I could hit some yard sales. I haven't bought much for the baby yet - so far only a T-shirt and some baby legs both ordered on line about a year ago and a dress and some twine animals when I was in Ethiopia last year... but that's it. I have quite a bit to get and I'm thinking with a referral possible in the coming months I better get started! But I figure, why buy everything new? Why pay $20 for an outfit you can get it for a dollar? I am all about saving money, especially when there are so many other things where you have no choice but pay to full price -- day care, diapers, food, etc.
So, I went to a garage sale this weekend specifically to look for baby items. Baby items! Me! It was weird, really. I've been in the process for so long doing all the boring stuff (home study, fingerprinting, blah, blah, blah) that it was kind of strange-- but quite fun-- to get some clothes and toys!
The first thing I got was the Exersaucer above. It looks brand new and what a deal. They retail for around 60 bucks and I got it for $20! I also got some sleep sacks. This really cute one was $5.
The woman selling it said it was by some European company and quite expensive brand new. When I got home I googled it. It's made by The Gro Company in the UK and they retail for £24! Yikes! She wasn't kidding! I also bought some really cute clothes. Not knowing what size she'll be when I pick her up, I am buying a range from 6-18 months. If they are big she can grow into them and at these prices, why not? Here are a few of the things I purchased, most $1 or less.
It's starting to look like there's actually going to be a baby around here! (click to enlarge)

That's funny, we are both on the same page and in a buying mood I guess! Just be careful with the clothes... I've been hesitant to buy anything for Charlie even though I know her size RIGHT NOW, because not sure about court, dates, growth, etc.... I suppose at a dollar per item it's hard to go wrong and you can always bring the smaller stuff to ET when you go and leave it behind if it doesn't fit her.
Exciting though, huh? I just won ANOTHER Ebay auction for 60 sweaters and pants for 18 months to 24 months, for 25 bucks!!! I'll be set for awhile! And I figure in December she'll be 15 months old and she's kind of HUGE for her size so it should be perfect.
Oh fun times!
Be careful, it's a bit addictive... I need to stop with the Ebay. I won 6 auctions in 24 hours and have close to 200 items of clothing coming...
60 sweaters and pants?! dang, girl, you need to stop!!
i signed up for eBay a couple of days ago (to sell stuff) but i have no idea how it works. still need to figure that part out!
though, knowing me i will go crazy once i do! lol
Shopping for baby rocks!!!
Ok, Im with ya... the garage sale thing is completely addictive!!! But yes, doesnt it feel weird to buy baby stuff to keep for yourself? I look at the stuff in my storage room and it still feels surreal...
Your exersaucer is awesome, and what a great deal. The thing looks brand new! The sleep sacks are adorable!! I bet you cant wait to have your little girl to put in them.. You found some great deals!!
I just bought an ikea table and two chairs for 23 bucks(the mammut ones) they are sooo cute and retail for 70 bucks altogether... I have some toys too, mostly fisher price and clothing that I bought at a clearance sale. I am buying everything in size 2 though since I have no idea about size (or sex for that matter).. I also have a ton of board books. I can never resist books..
The things I will buy brand new for sure are the car seat, crib mattress and also the diaper bag. I got a brand new highchair at toys r us for 40 bucks on sale..
true, you dont know quite the right size, but at a buck or two an outfit, shop, enjoy, have fun!
And whatever doesn't fit will make great donations, locally or in ET or wherever.
Shop on!!
Nice Laura!
I really like the last one.

Don't forget about craisglist. I got the best deals on really really nice baby stuff there. This is so exciting!
Wonderful! It is really getting exciting! I'll check out the Junior League resale shop...I heard they have kids' stuff. Boo hoo that Filene's Waterfrong has closed. Got some neat stuff there for Rissa and Anna...But resale is the way to go. Ebay sounds really intriguing.
Oh, my...
love, mom
