Dropping my little girl off at 7:00am and picking her up at 6:00 is no fun. I'm sorry, but leaving her with strangers and spending the day with other people's children doesn't make any sense. All we have time for is dinner and bath and bed. Very little time to play and interact with each other and I miss her! I cried tonight because she was a bit cranky and I feel guilty because I think having her in daycare is to blame. She needs more sleep but it's hard to get her to bed before 7:45. I hate rushing her in the mornings but I need my a.m. planning time. Tonight I picked her up and she was spotless. No art projects today I guess. And no playing outside either, apparently. What are they doing all day in that small room?! I want her to be able to run around in the sunshine and have fun!! She's only 2.
It will get better. Soon I will be able to pick her up earlier and take her to the park or do something fun after school. The beginning of the school year is just so busy and even more so with a new job so I need to put in the time but it makes me so sad for her. For us. I want to be the one teaching her new things and potty training her and seeing her bright eyes when she excited or comforting her when she's hurt. :(
I believe her Ethiopian teacher cares about her and they all tell me how happy and verbal and how good she is and I know as a teacher kids like that are easier to be nice to so I am not too worried about how she's being treated, but I really wish there was some way that I could stay home with her and teach her everything she needs to know. At least until she's verbal enough to tell me about her day. Now I am left to speculate and wonder if she's having fun.
Back to School Night is next Friday and I look forward to hearing more about their program. I did find out she goes to the media center, PE and music class (M,W,F) so that's nice. And I like being able to drop in unexpectedly throughout the day to see what she's doing, but nothing would be better than having her home with me.
God, can you please send me my rich husband soon so I can quit my job and be a stay at home mom? I have been very patient. Thank you. Amen.

I feel your pain. Israel wasn't adjusting too well either with the long days last wee so I've been picking him up a little earlier and using that for 'us' time. not sure how long it will last but it has made things better for him and by default me. Instead of been trying to get some work done in the evenings once he's sleep but that doesn't give me much me time.
Good thing we have a 3 day weekend to spend some quality time with them.
Of course the rich husband might not be a bad idea either :-)
I understand. It really breaks my heart to have to leave Holly five days a week. And now she can tell me that she doesn't want to go.... I wish there was another way.
Oh, I can relate all too well. I hate that I have to drop my lil momma off from 7-5:30 pm. It barely leaves us any time at all. But till things change we live for the weekends and holidays.
It will get better!!! {HUGS}

It will get better. But it's awful. I know. Of course, I have the husband and he's wonderful more than a 'help' he's my partner. That said, I still had to be the one to leave the house at 6:30 AM and sometimes get home at 8:30 PM. Awful. I feel you.
It's very awful for you. I'm not sure about her. The truth is for most of the time Q was in daycare he loved it. He was tired and cranky in the evenings sometimes but he loved being with the kids and I know from being in the daycare at times they keep the kids incredibly busy.
Hang in there. You're going through and adjustment time. It's really hard but it will get better. You have each other and that is the best thing in the world.
Hugs.
Dear God,
Me too.
Amen.
This was/has been the hardest part for me. My daughter (now 4, from Guatemala) has had her struggles wth separations/attachment. She has always been very verbal and last year when she had just turned 3 stated that: School is too sad for little children. Now at 4: It is so hard for me to be without you all day. I need you wherever I am. Yet all reports from my friends that use the same preschool are that she is the one kid BEAMING whenever they see her there, involved in everything. For me, I just want to scoop her up and hide her out in the highschool classroom where I teach, next to me all day. Not very practical. So we muddle through and thankfully have the summer and more vacation time than most. I wish there were other options, but I knew, adopting single, that this would have to be the way. I think this 4 year old year will be the easiest on her so far, and then it's off to kindergarten like everyone else, so it does indeed get better.
I know it's painful...

Well put. I wrote a very similar blog post about this a few days ago. My tears still come on a daily basis. It's the hardest thing I've had to deal with since bringing Biset home. Here's hoping it really DOES get easier for us :-)
